5 Reasons why being in constant contact with nature can make us live longer, happier and healthier lives.

  1. Nature can reduce our stress levels. Exposure to nature not only makes us feel better emotionally, reduces blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.

  2. Nature can boost our immune systems. Studies show that time in nature or scenes of nature are associated with a positive mood, and psychological wellbeing, meaningfulness, and vitality. Although it remains unclear how nature can protect you from diseases like cancer, heart disease, depression, and diabetes, studies suggest that it does offer protection from these illnesses. It can protect you on multiple levels, helping you retain mental and physical health.

  3. Nature helps us practice mindfulness. Research shows that time in nature or viewing nature scenes increases our ability to pay attention. Because humans find nature inherently interesting, we can naturally focus on what we are experiencing out in nature. This also provides a respite for our overactive minds, refreshing us for new tasks.

  4. Nature helps us recover faster. Enjoying even a small bit of nature can work wonders when people are recovering from illnesses, too. Also, being in natural settings has been shown to help decrease systolic blood pressure and cortisol levels, which can aid in recovery and promote greater health. It can improve sleep patterns, which helps promote health and healing.

  5. Nature can increase our energy levels. A study conducted by the University of Rochester revealed that exposure to nature can increase energy levels and simply help people feel more alive. A greater sense of vitality can motivate us to do more as well.

Do we need more reasons to take care of the most powerful healer we have? Didn't think so.

Mindfully,
Sam.
